‘Port Cottonera’ was a project of national interest - with various areas of substantial development potential. After the issuance of a tender by the Maltese government in 1988, Realco Malta made part of the selected consortium for the regeneration of the 400-year-old area forming part of the ‘Valletta Grand Harbour’. Realco Malta was at the centre of all relevant activities pursuant to this project, becoming the most active partner – heading intense negotiations with the government of Malta on sensitive development topics for the furtherance of the restoration and redevelopment of this national heritage area, in the interest of the public at large.
Realco Malta was entrusted as the consulting project manager and was given 6-months to renovate and develop the derelict casino premises from ruin, having been abandoned for centuries. The casino was eventually sold to ‘Casino Municipale di Venezia PLC’ – which became the third licensed casino on the island of Malta in 2001.
Realco Malta thereafter continued into the restoration of parts of the Vittoriosa waterfront – today leased as prominent catering establishments by the harbour. Pursuant to which, Realco Malta pivoted into the restoration of the Macina, which today is the home to a 5-star boutique hotel named the ‘Cugo Gran Macina’ operated by the German ‘IBB Hotel Collection’. Upon its completion, it gained important international exposure via the awards it received, including the ‘German Design Awards 2020, for Excellent Architecture – Interior Architecture’.
Realco Malta has recently concluded its latest development of a state-of-the-art aparthotel with restaurant facilities in Msida, known as ‘Park Heights’. This complex will be equipped to accommodate a spectrum of guests, seeking large modern spaces, technology and pristine service.
